Dr. Janette Perkins was born and raised in Dickson, Tennessee, a town just outside of Nashville. After graduating high school, she attended college at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee where she received a Bachelor’s degree in biology. She then moved to Memphis, Tennessee in order to attend Southern College of Optometry and earn her doctor of optometry.
While in optometry school, Dr. Perkins was involved in SVOSH, an organization that allowed her to travel to other countries to provide free eye exams to patients in Honduras, Belize, and Mexico. She also went on several remote area medical trips to provide health care to underserved areas in east Tennessee. In her last year of school, Dr. Perkins did an externship at the Air Force Academy in Colorado, which ultimately led her back Colorado Springs to work at Rocky Mountain Eye Care a few years later.
After graduation in 2014, Dr. Perkins worked in middle Tennessee with Well Child, a company that provides eye exams to school children. She also worked for a year at Ducklo Eye Group in Nashville, Tennessee. When the time was right, she was able to marry the love of her life, whom she had met while training at the Air Force Academy, and move here with him to the Springs.
When not working, Dr. Perkins loves hiking, kayaking, and exploring her new home in Colorado.
